Students can view up-to-date financial aid and student account information by accessing the Solar System (www.stonybrook.edu/solarsystem).





Q: How and when do I apply for financial aid?

A: Students must complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Students may file online at
www.fafsa.ed.gov. Students may apply after January 1st and are advised to file by March 1st for the upcoming academic year. Stony Brook's federal school code is 002838

Q: My program begins in the summer, can I get financial aid?

A: In addition to filing the FAFSA, students must be enrolled for at least 6 credits and need to complete a Request for Summer Aid Application.

Q: My financial aid has not come in yet and I was depending on the money to buy books, what should I do now?

A:Students can open a Bookstore Campus Account
(www.stonybrook.edu/bca). The amount selected is charged to the student's account and can be deferred against anticipated financial aid.

Q: Where do I complete my Master Promissory Note and who do I select as a lender?

A:The Master Promissory note can be completed electronically at
http://www.hesc.org Stony Brook's recommended lenders are listed in the instructions with the promissory note.

Q: I've been awarded federal work-study, where do I go to find employment?

A: Job listings are available on the Solar System

Q: When do I receive my loans?

A: Loan funds are disbursed to the University in two disbursements, one for the fall and one for the spring semester. (At the beginning of each term)

Q: Where do I pick up my refund check?

A: Students who reside on-campus can pick up their refund check at the Bursars Office (26 Administration Building). Refund checks can be mailed upon request - contact the Bursars Office at (631)-632-9315.

Q: My TAP award has not been received, how do I check the status of my application?

A:Students should go the HESC website
(www.hesc.com) or call New York State Higher Education Services at 1(888)-697-4372.

Q: I've accepted my financial aid award on-line, what is the next step?

A:We will electronically transmit acceptance of your loans to New York State Higher Education Services (HESC). If you have previously completed a Master Promissory Note (MPN), an additional promissory note is not required. Your loans will be processed using your prior lender. If you do not have a valid MPN on file, you will need to complete the Electronic Master Promissory Note on-line (EMPN). Go to
